In Meransen, the day begins with a thrilling downhill ride or a walk in the snow. In December, the atmosphere in the old South Tyrolean towns of Brixen, Klausen, Bruneck, Bozen and Meran are animated by the characteristic hustle and bustle of Christmas festivities. On the elegantly decorated stalls, the traditional Christmas markets display exquisite handmade arts and crafts and the traditional local gastronomic specialties. At Christmas time the Thermenplatz square in Merano is at its most spectacular, colourful and stylish, never failing to impress visitors. The characteristic wooden houses neatly arranged on Waltherplatz square in Bozen are no less fascinating. A day trip to the markets can be combined with a relaxing afternoon at the Merano Thermal Baths or a visit to the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bozen where Ötzi, one of the most famous preserved mummy in the world, continues to draw visitors of all ages.
